Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • The pituitary gland helps with cell reproduction and releases growth hormone. Acromegaly is often caused by a benign pituitary tumor.
  • Each rating level builds in severity. Make sure your medical records document all elements required for the rating level you are seeking, including lab work, imaging, and specialist evaluations.
  • If your acromegaly is caused by a pituitary tumor, the tumor itself may also be ratable under the endocrine tumor schedule (DC 7915 or 7916).
  • Hormone deficiencies due to pituitary damage are presumptive secondary conditions for veterans with moderate or severe TBI.
