Adjustment Disorder

Adjustment disorder is rated under 38 CFR § 4.130, Diagnostic Code 9440. It often develops in response to a significant stressor and may resolve or become chronic. The VA uses the same General Rating Formula as other mental health conditions.

Mild or transient symptoms, generally controlled by medication or manageable during normal stress.

Occasional decrease in work efficiency; sleep problems, mild anxiety or depressed mood.

Reduced reliability; difficulty maintaining effective work or social relationships.

Deficiencies in most life areas; near-continuous depression or panic.

100%

Total occupational and social impairment.
