Aortic Aneurysm

Aortic aneurysm is rated under DC 7110. A 100% rating is assigned if the aneurysm is 5 centimeters or larger, if it is symptomatic, or if surgery is required. After surgical repair, the condition is rated based on residual symptoms. If the aneurysm is small and asymptomatic, it may not qualify for a compensable rating on its own.

VA Rating Levels

0%

Small aneurysm that is asymptomatic and does not meet criteria for a compensable rating. Evaluated on residuals if surgically repaired.

100%

Aneurysm is 5 cm or more in diameter, or it is symptomatic, or surgical repair is required.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • If your aneurysm is 5 cm or larger, symptomatic, or has required surgery, that warrants a 100% rating. Make sure your imaging results clearly document the size.
  • After surgical repair, you will be rated on residual symptoms. Keep detailed records of any ongoing limitations, pain, or complications from the surgery.
  • Even if your aneurysm is currently small and being monitored, having it documented and service-connected means you are protected if it grows or requires surgery in the future.
  • Aortic aneurysms can develop secondary to hypertension or atherosclerosis. If you have a service-connected cardiovascular condition, explore whether a secondary connection applies.
