Exam Tips & Key Evidence
- →This condition can only be rated if it was caused by trauma, such as a broken nose during service. Make sure your service records document the injury.
- →You cannot get separate ratings for a deviated septum and rhinitis. If you have both, the VA will rate whichever is most beneficial.
- →If your deviated septum contributes to sleep apnea, that secondary connection can be very valuable. Have your doctor document how the obstruction affects your breathing during sleep.
- →The only available rating is 10%, but establishing this condition as service-connected can be a stepping stone for secondary claims.
