Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when cells that normally line the uterus grow in other parts of the body. It is rated under DC 7629 based on symptom severity, treatment response, and whether lesions involve the bowel or bladder. The diagnosis must be confirmed through laparoscopy, and this testing must be completed before filing a claim because the VA will not have an examiner perform laparoscopy during a C&P exam.

VA Rating Levels

10%

Pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, or irregular bleeding that requires continuous treatment for control.

30%

Pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, or irregular bleeding that is not controlled by treatment.

50%

Lesions involving the bowel or bladder with pelvic pain, heavy or irregular bleeding not controlled by treatment, and bowel or bladder symptoms.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • A laparoscopy confirming the diagnosis is required before filing. The VA will not order this test during a C&P exam, so get it done beforehand.
  • The key difference between 10% and 30% is whether treatment controls your symptoms. Document every medication trial and its results.
  • For the maximum 50% rating, you need confirmed lesions on the bowel or bladder plus uncontrolled symptoms. Surgical records from laparoscopy are your strongest evidence.
  • Secondary conditions from endometriosis such as depression, anxiety, or bladder issues may be separately ratable.
