Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is rated under 38 CFR § 4.115b. The schedular rating is typically 0%, but the VA provides Special Monthly Compensation (SMC-K) for loss of use of a creative organ, which is an additional monthly payment on top of your regular compensation.

VA Rating Levels

ED is service-connected. While the schedular rating is 0%, you're entitled to SMC-K (Special Monthly Compensation) — an additional monthly payment (currently around $131/month) for loss of use of a creative organ. This is paid ON TOP of your regular disability compensation.

Deformity of the penis with loss of erectile power. This higher rating requires physical deformity, not just dysfunction.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

→SMC-K is the real benefit here — it's extra money on top of your combined rating
→ED is very commonly secondary to: PTSD medications (SSRIs), diabetes, hypertension medications, prostate conditions
→Don't be embarrassed to claim this — it's extremely common and well-recognized by the VA
→If medications for your service-connected conditions cause ED, that's a valid secondary claim
