Heart Valve Disease
Heart valve conditions are rated under 38 CFR § 4.104, Diagnostic Codes 7000–7004. The rating is based on METs and ejection fraction, same framework as ischemic heart disease.
VA Rating Levels
30%
Workload of 3–5 METs causes symptoms; EF of 30–50%; or two or more episodes of heart failure per year.
60%
METs of 1–3 cause symptoms; EF 10–29%.
100%
Chronic congestive heart failure; EF less than 10%, or symptoms at rest.

- →After valve replacement or repair, request a new C&P exam immediately
- →Regurgitation that worsens with other service-connected conditions is a secondary claim
