Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Hyperhidrosis is abnormally excessive sweating involving the extremities, underarms, and face, usually not related to body temperature or exercise. It is rated under Diagnostic Code 7832 based on the ability to handle paper or tools after therapy.

VA Rating Levels

0%

Able to handle paper or tools after therapy.

30%

Unable to handle paper or tools because of moisture, and the condition is unresponsive to therapy.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • The key factor for the 30% rating is demonstrating that therapy has not resolved the excessive sweating AND that it prevents you from handling paper or tools.
  • Document all treatments attempted and their effectiveness (or lack thereof) to establish treatment failure.
  • Hyperhidrosis can significantly affect your ability to perform certain jobs. Describe these functional limitations to your examiner at the C&P exam.
  • If the excessive sweating is related to a service-connected condition such as anxiety or medication side effects, it can be claimed as secondary.
