Hypothyroidism is rated under 38 CFR § 4.119, Diagnostic Code 7901. The VA evaluates the degree of metabolic impairment — from mild symptoms managed by medication to severe myxedema.

10%
Continuous medication required to maintain thyroid hormone levels; minimal symptoms such as fatigue or cold intolerance.
30%
Fatigability, mental sluggishness, constipation, weight gain, modest enlargement of the thyroid.
60%
Muscular weakness, mental disturbance, weight changes; hypothyroid features that noticeably limit activity.
100%
Severe myxedema — anasarca (widespread swelling), mental impairment, cardiac complications, coma.
