Insomnia / Sleep Disorders
Primary insomnia is rated under 38 CFR § 4.130, Diagnostic Code 9012. The VA rates it using the General Rating Formula for Mental Disorders. Insomnia commonly exists secondary to PTSD, TBI, pain conditions, or MST.

Diagnosis confirmed but symptoms do not significantly affect daily functioning.
Chronic sleep impairment that decreases work efficiency during high-stress periods but is otherwise controlled.
Frequent insomnia that noticeably reduces work efficiency; fatigue affecting daily life.
Significantly disrupted sleep causing reduced reliability at work and problems maintaining relationships.
Severe, near-continuous sleep disruption leading to major deficiencies across occupational and social functioning.
Total occupational and social impairment from severe sleep disorder.
