Polyglandular Syndrome

Polyglandular syndrome is rated under DC 7912. This condition occurs when multiple glands of the endocrine system are affected at the same time. It does not have its own rating criteria. Instead, the VA rates this condition based on the primary symptoms it causes, using the appropriate schedule for the dominant condition (such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, or other endocrine disorders).

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • Since this condition affects multiple glands, you may be eligible for separate ratings for each affected gland or the complications they cause. Work with your provider to document each affected system.
  • The VA will rate based on the dominant condition. Make sure the most severe manifestation is clearly identified in your records.
  • This condition can produce a wide range of symptoms across different body systems. A thorough evaluation by an endocrinologist is essential for documenting the full scope of your condition.
  • Consider filing for each endocrine condition separately if they can be independently diagnosed and rated, as this may result in a higher combined rating than a single polyglandular syndrome claim.
