Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT)

Supraventricular tachycardia and other supraventricular arrhythmias (including atrial fibrillation) are rated under DC 7010. Ratings are based on how many treatment interventions are needed per year. This is rated separately from the basic heart conditions, but you can only receive one evaluation for irregular heartbeat conditions. The maximum rating under this code is 30%.

VA Rating Levels

10%

One to four treatment interventions per year for paroxysmal (intermittent) arrhythmia, or continuous oral medication is needed for control.

30%

Five or more treatment interventions per year for paroxysmal arrhythmia. This is the maximum rating under DC 7010.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • Treatment interventions include things like ER visits, cardioversions, and ablation procedures. Keep a detailed record of each one, because the number per year directly determines your rating.
  • This code maxes out at 30%. If your arrhythmia also limits your exercise capacity, you may qualify under a basic heart condition code instead, but the VA will rate whichever is more beneficial, not both.
  • Atrial fibrillation (AFib) falls under this same schedule. If you have been diagnosed with AFib, this is the code that applies.
  • Only one evaluation is allowed for all irregular heartbeat conditions. You cannot get separate ratings for SVT and ventricular arrhythmias.
