Thyroiditis
Thyroiditis is rated under DC 7906. This condition involves the thyroid gland becoming irritated and swollen. On its own, thyroiditis only qualifies for a 0% rating when there are no active symptoms. However, if the inflammation leads to hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, the veteran will be rated under those respective schedules instead (DC 7900 or DC 7903).

Exam Tips & Key Evidence
- →While a 0% rating may seem unhelpful, getting thyroiditis service-connected is valuable. If it progresses to hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, you already have the service connection established.
- →A 0% service-connected rating still provides access to VA healthcare for the condition and protects you if the condition worsens.
- →Monitor for signs that your thyroiditis is causing thyroid hormone imbalances, which would move you to a different and potentially higher rating schedule.
- →Document any flare-ups or periods of worsening inflammation in your medical records to build a timeline if the condition progresses.
