Tremors (Convulsive Tic)

Tremors (convulsive tic) occur when the nerves cause muscles to spasm regularly. They are rated under Diagnostic Code 8103 based on severity. Importantly, separate evaluations on a per-limb basis are not allowed for this condition. The VA assigns a single overall rating for the severity of the tremors.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • Unlike many nerve conditions, tremors cannot be rated separately per limb. You receive a single overall rating.
  • If your tremors are secondary to Parkinson's disease or TBI, they may be more favorably rated as a symptom of the underlying condition.
  • Document how tremors affect your daily activities such as writing, eating, holding objects, and performing job tasks.
  • Video documentation of your tremors can be powerful supporting evidence for your claim.
