Ventricular Arrhythmias (AICD)
Ventricular arrhythmias are rated under DC 7011. If the veteran has an automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (AICD), a 100% rating is assigned for as long as the device remains implanted. After removal, the condition is rated on residuals. A temporary 100% rating is also assigned for six months following hospital admission for sustained ventricular arrhythmias. After that period, the minimum evaluation is 10%.
VA Rating Levels
10%
Minimum evaluation after the initial six-month period following hospital admission for sustained ventricular arrhythmias.
100%
While an AICD (implantable defibrillator) is in place. Also assigned for six months following hospital admission for sustained ventricular arrhythmias.
Exam Tips & Key Evidence
- →If you have an implantable defibrillator (AICD), you are rated at 100% for as long as the device is in place. This is one of the few conditions where the rating is directly tied to having the device.
- →After hospital admission for a sustained ventricular arrhythmia, you receive a temporary 100% for six months. After that, the minimum drops to 10%, but can be higher based on residual symptoms.
- →Only one rating is allowed for irregular heartbeat conditions. You cannot get separate ratings for both ventricular and supraventricular arrhythmias.
- →Keep thorough records of any hospital admissions, device checks, and cardiac events. These are critical for supporting your claim.
