Vertigo / Meniere's Disease

Vertigo and Meniere's syndrome are rated under 38 CFR § 4.87, Diagnostic Code 6204. The VA evaluates frequency and severity of vertiginous attacks and associated hearing loss or tinnitus.

VA Rating Levels

10%

Occasional dizziness with no hearing impairment.

30%

Occasional dizziness with hearing impairment, or vertigo occurring with hearing impairment.

60%

Frequent attacks of vestibular vertigo with hearing loss.

100%

Hearing virtually absent, severe, persistent dizziness, and tinnitus — all features of advanced Meniere's.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • Document frequency of attacks and whether they cause falls or loss of balance
  • Hearing loss and tinnitus are separate claims — file all three
  • Inner ear damage from blast exposure (IED, artillery) is a common service nexus
