SkinDC 7823
Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a condition that causes loss of skin color in blotches. It is rated under Diagnostic Code 7823 based on whether exposed areas of the body are affected. Exposed areas for VA purposes include the head, neck, and hands. The rating schedule is straightforward with only two levels.
VA Rating Levels
0%
No exposed areas (head, neck, hands) are affected by vitiligo.
10%
Exposed areas (head, neck, hands) are affected by vitiligo.
Exam Tips & Key Evidence
- →Even though the maximum schedular rating for vitiligo is only 10%, any amount of vitiligo on the head, neck, or hands qualifies for that rating.
- →Photo documentation showing the affected exposed areas is helpful for your claim.
- →If vitiligo causes psychological distress, consider whether a secondary claim for a mental health condition may be appropriate.
- →Unexposed areas alone (covered by clothing) without any exposed-area involvement will result in a 0% rating.
