Allergic or Vasomotor Rhinitis
Allergic or vasomotor rhinitis is rated under DC 6522. Ratings are based on whether nasal polyps are present and the degree of nasal obstruction. You can receive separate ratings for rhinitis and sinusitis. This is a burn pit presumptive condition.
VA Rating Levels
10%
Without polyps, but with greater than 50% obstruction of both nasal passages or complete obstruction on one side.
30%
With polyps present.

- →If you have nasal polyps, that supports the maximum 30% rating. Make sure your medical records clearly document whether polyps are present.
- →You can get separate ratings for rhinitis and sinusitis, so if you have both conditions, claim them individually for the best combined result.
- →Sleep apnea is a common secondary condition to rhinitis. If nasal obstruction contributes to your sleep issues, document that connection.
- →This is a burn pit presumptive condition. If you served in areas with known burn pit exposure, service connection may be straightforward.
