Bacterial Rhinitis
Bacterial rhinitis is rated under DC 6523. Ratings depend on whether there is permanent hypertrophy (enlargement) of the nasal turbinates and the degree of obstruction. Rhinoscleroma (a specific type of bacterial rhinitis) is rated at 50%. You can receive separate ratings for rhinitis and sinusitis. This is a burn pit presumptive condition.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence
- →You can get separate ratings for bacterial rhinitis and sinusitis, so if you have both, make sure they are each claimed.
- →Permanent turbinate hypertrophy is the key finding for the 10% rating. Ask your ENT doctor to document the size of your turbinates and any obstruction measurements.
- →This is a burn pit presumptive condition, which means service connection may be easier to establish if you had burn pit exposure.
- →If your bacterial rhinitis is recurrent and contributes to other breathing problems, document those secondary effects for potential additional claims.
