The coronoid process is a bony projection on the lower jaw where the temporalis muscle attaches. Loss of one or both coronoid processes is rated under DC 9909.

VA Rating Levels

10%

One coronoid process is missing.

20%

Both coronoid processes are missing.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • This condition is typically associated with trauma or surgical removal rather than disease.
  • If both sides are missing, you receive the higher 20% rating rather than two separate 10% ratings.
