Pelvic Organ Displacement / Prolapse
Displacement of pelvic organs (prolapse) is rated at a flat 10% under DC 7621 regardless of how many organs are affected. This includes complete or incomplete prolapse due to injury, disease, or surgical complications of pregnancy. Affected organs can include the bladder, rectum, small intestines, urethra, uterus, and vagina. Specific types include cystocele, enterocele, perineal deficiency, rectocele, and urethrocele. If the displacement causes secondary digestive, genitourinary, or skin symptoms, those secondary conditions can each receive their own separate rating. However, if the displacement resulted from removal of reproductive organs, a separate rating for displacement of remaining organs is not allowed (though secondary conditions still can be rated).
VA Rating Levels
Pelvic organ displacement, regardless of how many organs are affected.
Exam Tips & Key Evidence
- →Even though the base rating is only 10%, the real value is in the secondary conditions. Urinary incontinence, bowel issues, and skin irritation from prolapse can each be rated separately.
- →If your prolapse was caused by surgical complications during pregnancy while in service, the chronic residuals can be service-connected.
- →Document every symptom the prolapse causes. The displacement itself is only 10%, but each secondary condition adds to your combined rating.
