Peripheral Arterial Disease
Peripheral arterial disease is rated under 38 CFR § 4.104, Diagnostic Code 7114. The VA evaluates symptom severity, walking tolerance (claudication distance), and arterial pressure measurements (ankle-brachial index).
VA Rating Levels
10%
Intermittent claudication on walking more than 25 yards; normal or near-normal ABI; occasional cold sensation or numbness.
20%
Claudication on walking 25 yards or less, or constant pain at rest with evidence of arterial insufficiency.
40%
Persistent coldness, paresthesias, or pain limiting ability to ambulate meaningfully.
60%
Persistent coldness and pain at rest with gangrene or severe recurrent skin breakdown.
