Removal of Ovary
Removal of one or both ovaries is rated under DC 7619. A temporary 100% rating applies for three months after surgery. If one ovary was removed, the rating drops to 0% after the temporary period (unless the remaining ovary is nonfunctional, which bumps it to 30%). If both ovaries were removed, the rating drops to 30% and the veteran is entitled to SMC-K for loss of a creative organ.
VA Rating Levels
100%
Temporary rating for three months following the removal surgery.
30%
Both ovaries removed, or one removed with the remaining ovary nonfunctional (after temporary 100% ends).
0%
One ovary removed with the remaining ovary still functional (after temporary 100% ends).
Exam Tips & Key Evidence
- →If you had one ovary removed but the remaining one is no longer working, you should be rated at 30% rather than 0%. Make sure your doctor documents the functional status of the remaining ovary.
- →SMC-K applies when both ovaries are removed. Verify it is part of your benefits award.
- →Ovary removal as a result of a service-connected condition (like endometriosis or cancer) should be claimed as secondary to that condition.
