Removal of Uterus (Hysterectomy)

Removal of the uterus (without both ovaries) is rated under DC 7618. A temporary 100% rating applies for three months after surgery, then drops to 30%. Veterans are entitled to Special Monthly Compensation at the K rate (SMC-K) for loss of a creative organ.

VA Rating Levels

100%

Temporary rating for three months following the removal surgery.

30%

Permanent rating after the temporary 100% period ends.

Exam Tips & Key Evidence

  • SMC-K applies for loss of a creative organ. Confirm it is included in your benefits award.
  • If the hysterectomy was performed to treat a service-connected condition like endometriosis, it should be linked as secondary.
  • Chronic residuals from surgical complications of pregnancy can qualify as a disability, even though pregnancy and childbirth themselves are not ratable.
